Who are we?

 About us

Taunton Team Chaplaincy is a registered charity which offers help to individuals regardless of faith, gender, ethnicity or disability.

The amazing team of 40 volunteer chaplains are drawn from a wide spectrum of churches across Taunton.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Lead Chaplain, Prebendary Adrian Prior-Sankey MBE is responsible for the day to day running of the team, and actively involved with  recruiting, training and supporting team members. He liaises with employers and managers, developing and nurturing partnerships between the Chaplaincy and others in the town including church ministers, civic leaders and community groups.

The Bishop of Taunton, the Rt Rev Ruth Worsley, is patron of the Chaplaincy. The Chaplaincy is ecumenical in outlook and not solely affiliated to any one Christian denomination.

Invaluable help is provided by local churches, civic authorities, grant-making bodies and individuals, including a prayer team and financial supporters.

Our Chaplains

Chaplains are local Christians who have a heart for people and have undertaken training and safeguarding processes to ensure they are equipped for their role. Some chaplains are ordained (for instance, they may be a vicar or minister) and all bring  valuable experience of life's challenges and rewards.

Prayer

A key element of the work is the prayer team who seek God's blessing on all aspects of the Chaplaincy's work.

Team members are drawn from a wide cross-section of active church members. More than 100 people, known as ‘Friends’, are committed to praying for the work and share thankfully in the many answers to prayer that occur.

From the formation of the Chaplaincy this has been a core activity. Since the earliest days of the Christian Church, followers of Jesus have sought to emulate His example of looking to God for answers to all of life's needs through prayer.

Financial Support

Others who make a direct contribution to the work are the financial supporters. These include local churches, individuals and external grant funders. The Chaplaincy relies entirely on donations to be able to continue. Businesses and community groups are not charged for having a chaplain. Local Christians who facilitate the work regard chaplaincy as a gift to the wider community. We are very grateful for every financial contribution and strive to ensure that every penny that is donated is used wisely and effectively.
